Subject: February Five-Note Festivial
Hi, all-
Ok, so we're all back from the holidays…OK, physically, if not mentally. In any case, it's time for another NikeDudes challenge.
Here's the deal this time. Take the following five notes in the order below and make something interesting of them:
E F# D G A
This exercise is actually derived from something a local pianist and composer, Michael Allen Harrison, likes to do at some of his concerts. He'll ask anyone in the audience to come up with any five notes in any order. He writes them on a slip of paper, thinks about it a moment, and then improvises a piece based on that five note phrase. It's pretty cool. One of these five note improvisations ended up being the basis for an entire movement of his first concerto, a very nice piece, by the way.
We're not suggesting that you have to write a full symphony based on E F# D G A, but we'd like to see anything you come up with using this phrase as inspiration. No min/max length here; just be creative.
Due date: February 15. This should give us enough time to put together something cool. Let me know if you think we need till the end of the month.
Send mp3 files to Kevin Laurila so we can post the results!
Happy composing!
Cheers,

Lyrics
feel like i'm all alone can see it on my face wish i hadn't a home in this forsaken place
and now i'm on my own sticking out of the crowd you can see messing up my hair never fitting into the space left for me
i'm out of place i'm out of place i'm out of place i'm out of place
all hope is lost nowhere left to turn running in all directions nothing left to learn
but maybe i'm not alone are there people in the crowd just like me? dressing like a freak never fitting into the space left for me
i'm out of place i'm out of place i'm out of place i'm out of place
