Song : Heritage Mall Blues (Demo)
Details
This song is unfinished, but it kicked off The Albany Project idea. Originally intended to have at least a 30 minute runtime, I only got as far as 2 and a half minutes with this single demo. The idea was to pad out the song with different musical styles and some long, slow breaks - like the sound of water symbolizing the Willamette river - to drive home the idea that Albany is boring and not much is going on. Below are some notes from around that time.
2007-08-13: Between each verse (maybe less, though) hang on a single chord before breaking back into it to create a little drama. later in the song pep it up, similar to "The Tale of Mr. Morton" from Schoolhouse Rock.
2023-05-29: I really don't remember that Mr. Morton connection. Here's the video for reference.
Lyrics
2003-09-02:
In Albany
There's nothing to do
Guess we'll go to the mall again
Just like we always do
Nobody' downtown
And all the shops are closed
Rednecks are in their holes
Heritage Mall takes its hold
